Mauchline is our Graceland
I know I’m going to miss you
I’m feeling kind of down
But Rab is there to comfort me
Make me feel like you’re around
Every time I turn a page
I can see your eyes
Lighting up a fire of words
That burn with Burns’ surprise
Feeling like I’m seasick
Sorry for myself
I’ve sort of made a hash of things
Things we might have shared
Certain facts you didn’t know
Perhaps you know them now
But all the time I loved you
I just couldn’t quite show how
He said the great and wealthy
Forever feel the blow
When from pomp and pleasure
They are forced to go
But oh a blest relief for those
That weary laden mourn
The pain you faced you left behind
When from us you were torn
If I could hold back time
I’m not sure I would try
For all my best laid schemes
Gang oft agley
Who can say it’s over
Forever we are lost
Words are such a powerful thing
As I’ve found to my cost
Words are part of what you were
The path to set you free
Other folk may pass me by
But you will always be
People all may shed a tear and say ‘Ae Fond’ goodbye
But I don’t think I will my dear until the day I die
Heaven only knows the place where it is we stand
I can find you anytime I need to hold your hand
Because Mauchline is our Graceland
